More and more homes are considering heat pumps across the country and the world. But, how does the heat pump installation process work? How long does it take? Is it intrusive? We’ll answer all these questions and more.

Here’s a straightforward guide to what you can expect

The process begins with a pre-sales assessment. You can enter your address online to determine if a heat pump is suitable for your home. If you have an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC), it helps expedite this evaluation. You’ll receive immediate feedback on whether a heat pump is appropriate, an estimated cost, and whether you qualify for the £7,500 Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS) grant. Get that process started here.

A detailed pre-installation survey will be conducted

You’ll be asked to upload photos and property details via a secure portal. An engineer will then visit to assess your current heating system and perform a thorough survey. This includes measuring room sizes, evaluating insulation, and considering other factors that affect heating efficiency.

Plug Me In will provide a proposal within three working days of the survey. This proposal includes a heat loss report, performance estimates, and cost projections. It may also suggest upgrades, such as better insulation or new radiators, to enhance system performance.

Once the proposal is accepted, the grant application process is managed on your behalf

Following approval, installation is scheduled, typically within two weeks. The installation usually takes 3-4 days. There may be a temporary loss of heating and hot water, but efforts are made to minimise any inconvenience. After installation, a thorough cleanup is performed, and you’ll receive a demonstration of your new system to ensure you understand its operation.

So, a couple of weeks of planning, and just a few days of work. It’s far quicker and simpler than a lot of home renovations, and remember, this project is future-proofing your home for years to come. Not to mention, it’ll save you plenty of money in the long run.
