EDF unveils HPIN Direct to address UK’s heat pump installer gap

EDF Heat Pumps has announced a new initiative to open the door for thousands of heating engineers to install heat pumps. The scheme is called HPIN Direct, and it’s the UK’s first no-fee umbrella program for heat pump installation.

Right now, many engineers are locked out of the government’s Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS). That’s because they need MCS certification, which can be a costly process. For smaller businesses, it’s often difficult to justify the time and money.

Some businesses pay umbrella companies that are MCS-certified to handle the paperwork. But this can cost thousands of pounds per installation.

HPIN Direct removes that barrier

The scheme gives over 100,000 installers direct access to the BUS grant, without the need for MCS registration. And it does this without charging any fees.

EDF has teamed up with two major names in the industry — Ideal Heating and Daikin — to make the process even easier. Together, they’ve built a streamlined solution for engineers who want to get started with heat pumps. The new scheme’s avoidance of middlemen and admin fees also brings down costs for homeowners.

The UK needs to install 600,000 heat pumps by 2028 as part of its drive towards net-zero. But there’s a growing issue: not enough skilled workers to get the job done. The demand for heat pump engineers is increasing rapidly, and the shortage of qualified installers is becoming a real concern. HPIN will support and train installers in local communities across the country. EDF says this is now the largest free-to-join network of trained heat pump installers in the country.

HPIN Direct is breaking down barriers, cutting costs, and getting more heat pumps into British homes — starting now.
