Heat pump sales hit over 60,000 in the UK in 2023, according to the Heat Pump Association

The Heat Pump Association (HPA) has released updated sales data for the UK heat pump market, offering a more detailed look than ever before. Crucially, the data is broken down by heat pump type for the first time. That gives us a much clearer picture of the market’s direction.
The report includes factory-gate sales of four main categories: Air-to-Water monobloc units, Air-to-Water split units, Ground and Water Source units, and an “other” category. The “other” group features technologies outside of the ‘big three’. These include Domestic Hot Water Heat Pumps, Exhaust Air Heat Pumps, and Integrated Hybrid Heat Pumps.
This new level of detail improves the accuracy of sales figures, with data dating back to 2019. The figures show steady growth in all heat pump categories, with Air-to-Water Monobloc units dominating the UK market. These common heat pump units hit over 47,000 sales last year, up from 19,000 in 2019.
HPA launched its online statistics resource in April 2024, and the latest update adds even more transparency. The accurate data will inform the decisions of all major heat pump players in the UK market. That makes it an incredibly powerful tool for gauging the buying interests of the nation.

Olivia Smalley, Head of Policy and Communications at the HPA, commented:
“As we work to accelerate the deployment of heat pumps across the UK, it’s vital to gain a deeper understanding of the UK Heat Pump Market. Providing this level of detail is a significant step towards greater transparency in the industry. Our members and stakeholders now have access to enhanced information to help them make more informed decisions, and this data will be vital in shaping targeted policies that drive growth and innovation across all heat pump technologies.”
The HPA’s granular market insights are a testament to how far the heat pump industry has come. The dramatic increase in sales is an incredibly encouraging sight and a sure sign that government incentives are having an effect. More importantly, though, it’s a mark of the increasingly prominent public interest in sustainable living.
