Utilita boss, Bill Bullen, launches major solar power push to install panels on 500 homes every month

Bill Bullen, the founder of Utilita Energy, has announced a bold plan to accelerate the UK’s shift to solar power. His company aims to install solar panels on 500 homes every month, making it easier for households to cut energy costs and reduce reliance on the grid.

The initiative, called the Rooftop Revolution, is backed by a national advertising campaign. It urges Britons to ‘Look up’ and consider solar as a smart, cost-effective energy solution. With electricity prices set to rise again in April, Bullen believes the time for action is now.

Utilita already has a strong track record in green technology. 92% of its customers have smart meters, well above the 65% industry average. The company is now expanding its expertise into solar PV installation.

Households can get a quick online quote, a free site survey, and installation within 4-6 weeks. Customers also have the option to add a solar battery and EV charger for even more savings.

Beyond this initiative, Bullen is calling for solar panels to be mandatory on all new homes. He also wants a faster, simpler grid connection process to help more people make the switch.

To support these efforts, Utilita is securing multi-million-pound funding to scale up its installation capacity. The company expects to hit its 500-home-per-month target by the end of 2026.

Utilita CEO, Bill Bullen, officially stated:

“The government has set out its plans to triple solar power generation in the UK by 2030, and we are eager to lead this transformative journey.

Rooftop solar is central to Clean Power 2030 and delivery of local, low-cost decarbonisation, reducing household energy spend, and is the most efficient way to ease the burden on the National Grid.

With the cost of electricity for UK households set to rise again in April, solar PV generation has never been more cost-effective. Panel efficiency has dramatically improved over the last decade, while the price of panels has reduced, meaning the overall return on investment is better than ever.

It’s encouraging that there are discussions around how the government can support solar PV as part of its Warm Homes Plan. To maximise the impact, it’s imperative that consumers can access batteries as part of any scheme. It is equally important that solar PV be mandated on all new builds as part of the Future Homes Standard.

I’m also a strong advocate for streamlining the connection process and enforcing strict service level agreements, focusing particularly on reducing the approval time by Distribution Network Operators (DNOs). Simplifying this procedure would expedite the adoption of solar PV, enabling households to make investment decisions swiftly and enjoy both financial and environmental benefits without delay.”

If more households adopt rooftop solar, energy costs will fall, and pressure on the National Grid will ease. As Bullen puts it, the “Rooftop Revolution” is about making clean, affordable energy accessible to all.
