Trish and Tim’s decarbonisation mission in their Cotswolds cottage
We recently explored the renovations of Lis and Sarah’s home, with Cosy Homes Oxfordshire transforming it into a showcase of sustainability. Now, we’re looking into Trish and Tim’s story, as they undergo the sustainable treatment on their Cotswolds cottage.
Trish and Tim’s home, a mix of old and new construction, was far from energy efficient. Built partly from solid ironstone before 1900 and modernised in the 1970s, the cottage suffered from poor insulation and single glazing. They knew they needed a change from the old oil-fired boiler at the heart of their heating system.
In the past, the couple had upgraded to a more efficient oil boiler. Now, thanks to the rise of heat pumps, they saw an opportunity to make a bigger, more sustainable change.
Cosy Homes Oxfordshire were integral to this journey
Cosy Homes provided a detailed Whole House Plan, recommending measures like upgrading the insulation, replacing old windows, and installing an ASHP (Air Source Heat Pump).

This plan gave them a clear path forward. By working with trusted local companies such as Cotswold Green Energy and Hook Norton Construction, Cosy Homes Oxfordshire handled the entire process, relieving the couple of any project management stress. This partnership was essential to ensuring the retrofit went smoothly.
The results?

Their home is now quieter, more comfortable, and much more energy efficient. Installing the ASHP, combined with insulation and window upgrades, drastically reduced heat loss and improved overall temperature control.
The environmental impact is substantial. Trish and Tim’s retrofit is expected to reduce their carbon emissions by 3.2 tonnes each year. That’s a huge win for both their energy bills and the planet.
